TIPH Ambassador

 TIPH Ambassador
Term 2020-2021

Alyssa Rentuza

The Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) sponsors the This Is Public Health (TIPH) Ambassador program. Ambassadors help raise awareness about the field of public health by leading virtual events, taking over the TIPH social media accounts, and contributing to projects and presentations to assist in the growth of interest in public health education and careers.

Every August, the incoming class of first year students in the Vanderbilt MPH Program elect a class representative. The class representative serves a two-year term, beginning in August of the first year and ending in April of the second year. Student representatives serve as liaison between the MPH students and the MPH Program administration.

Eligibility: up to two current first-year students in the Vanderbilt MPH Program

Term: One year or three academic semesters (June of Year 1 through May of Year 2)

Students will need to commit approximately five hours per month to working with TIPH, specifically through participation in Virtual Fairs, local TIPH Grad Fairs, and social media, as well as talking to current undergraduate students. In return, they will:

  • Be responsible for posting on social media to spread awareness of the This is Public Health Campaign
  • Obtain access to exclusive events and a closed Online Community
  • Be provided opportunities to showcase their research/practicum/capstone projects
  • Have the ability to share information about the Vanderbilt MPH Program
  • Gain professional development and the ability to network with professionals in the field of Public Health
  • Every January, the MPH Program will send current first-year students an email seeking nominations
  • Interested students complete a brief online form (REDCap) and write a one-paragraph statement summarizing why they would make a great TIPH Ambassador. Students should have good communication skills, show leadership abilities, be innovative/creative thinkers, engaging, reliable, and positive/enthusiastic towards public health and higher education
  • Students may also be nominated by faculty, staff, or their fellow students
  • The MPH Program will compile nominations and create an electronic ballot, then distribute the ballot to students by email
  • Students will have 2-4 weeks to submit their anonymous vote electronically
  • At least 3/4 of students in the cohort must submit a vote
  • The MPH Program will compile results and nominate the students to ASPPH in April
  • Students will be interviewed and ASPPH will announce selections for the TIPH Ambassador Cohort via email and on its website
