Jianhua Tian, PhD

Drug Discovery Scientist I

Jianhua Tian earned his PhD in Organic Chemistry under the direction of Prof. David E. Bergbreiter at Texas A&M University, College Station. His thesis work focused on development of novel, reusable, soluble polyisobutylene bonded transition metal catalysts for use in liquid/liquid biphasic systems. With his strong interest in organic synthesis, he joined Prof. Stephen F. Martin’s group at the University of Texas at Austin as a postdoctoral fellow after graduation. His research involved natural product synthesis, pseudooligopeptides synthesis for ITC study of ligand-protein interaction. After completion of his postdoctoral research, he started his career as a chemist at Organix Inc. and worked on the design and synthesis of monoamine uptake inhibitors aimed to discover pharmacotherapies for treatment of cocaine addiction and brain imaging agents. He also worked on Custom Synthesis and Contract Research including design and synthesis of custom compounds libraries. Four years later, he took another opportunity at the Department of Agriculture TN and began his new career in analytical chemistry. His duty involved quantitative analysis of complex matrices such as plants, soil, for herbicides and pesticides by means of LC-MS/MS, HPLC with post-column derivatization system.  In 2016, Jianhua Tian joined VICB chemical synthesis core as a chemist.
