Why I Give

Arthur C. Fleischer, M.D. ’76, Radiology
“I am eternally grateful for the training I received over 40 years ago here. I contribute to promote the collegial atmosphere of imaging research here.”

Jeffrey S. Spencer, M.D. ’87
“My success in life is from my undergraduate and graduate education at Vanderbilt. I am very grateful for those 8 years. I want to help those in the future have the same opportunities and education at Vanderbilt that I had.”

Robert L. Rosenfeld, M.D. ’94, M.A. ‘73
“We are a multiple generational Commodore family. My father, Louis Rosenfeld, went to medical school and trained at Vanderbilt. He was a general surgeon there for over 40 years, and in retirement became a professor emeritus. My aunt, Mary Jane Werthan, was the first woman on the board of trust at the university. My wife, Rebecca, earned an MS in speech and language pathology at Vanderbilt. She also received an honors scholarship. I attended medical school and did my Ob/Gyn residency at VUMC. Our son, Brad, earned an MBA from the Owen School. My sister in law, Esther Cohn, and nephew, George Cohn, both graduated from the College. We have had wonderful opportunities afforded us because of the skills learned at Vandy. Our experiences as students were treasured. We are grateful to have had the chance to be part of this vibrant and student oriented institution.”

Michael Hooper, M.D. ‘04
“Vanderbilt University is a special place. A place dedicated to helping the nearby community and the world. It does so not only through patient care and world class research, but also by nurturing a community of moral behavior and love. During my time at Vanderbilt, I learned to think, to communicate, to lead, and to care. Giving is my way of supporting Vanderbilt’s mission. I believe in it.”
