Kimberly Turner, assistant dean of administrative operations in Pod 3 for the School of Medicine Basic Sciences, was selected to participate in the 2024–25 cycle of the National Association of College and University Business Officers Emerging Leaders Program.
Turner joins a cohort of 77 promising mid-level managers in higher education business and finance representing 64 higher education institutions in 31 states. The Emerging Leaders Program reflects NACUBO’s organizational priority to strengthen and diversify the chief business officer pipeline, according to NACUBO. The group will meet online and in person through April 2025.
“Kim’s selection to join the selective NACUBO Emerging Leaders Program reflects the talent we have in the School of Medicine Basic Sciences,” said Claudia Paz, chief business officer and associate dean for finance and administration for Basic Sciences. “Becoming a leader is a continuous learning experience, and I know she will make the most of this opportunity.”
The professional development program aims to empower participants by strengthening their leadership skills, facilitating collaborative connections across campus, and expanding their professional networks. Tailored for business officers seeking career advancement in higher education finance and administration, the program curriculum emphasizes financial management, strategic decision-making, and supporting student achievement.
“I am deeply honored to be accepted into the NACUBO Emerging Leaders Program. This opportunity represents an exciting step in my professional growth,” Turner said. “I look forward to engaging with fellow leaders, gaining new insights, and applying the knowledge I acquire to create a lasting, positive impact on the School of Medicine Basic Sciences and Vanderbilt University.”
NACUBO is a nonprofit professional organization representing chief administrative and financial officers at more than 1,700 colleges and universities across the country. NACUBO works to advance the economic vitality, business practices, and support of higher education institutions in pursuit of their missions. The Emerging Leaders Program was established in 2000 and the 2024–25 cohort is the largest group accepted to the program since it first began.
“The Emerging Leaders Program is a very selective professional development opportunity, and the fact that we are welcoming our largest cohort yet is a testament to our impressive applicants,” said Kara D. Freeman, NACUBO president and CEO. “NACUBO is proud to offer such a comprehensive and in-demand program to prepare the next generation of higher education business and finance leaders.”
