Celebrating appointments and promotions in the School of Medicine Basic Sciences: July–September 2025

The Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Basic Sciences community is made up of scientists and researchers who demonstrate their steadfast commitment, innovative thinking, and passion for advancing knowledge about human biology, health, and disease each day.

We extend congratulations to our faculty who were recently promoted or received new appointments. These individuals significantly enrich our pursuit of pathbreaking research and contribute to the growth and success of our school.

New appointments:

Research track:

  • Maxime Chevee was appointed as a research instructor in the Department of Pharmacology.
  • Kwang-Ho Kim was appointed as a research associate professor in the Department of Biochemistry.

Educator track:

  • Stephanie Richards and Sabrina Woods were appointed as assistant professors in the Department of Biochemistry.

Investigator track:

  • Chance Meers was appointed as an assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry.

Promotions:

Directorships:

  • Maria Hadjifrangiskou was promoted to senior assistant dean of biomedical graduate education and training.
  • Madhvi Venkatesh was promoted to director of the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program.

Title changes:

  • Nancy Carrasco was given the title of University Distinguished Professor.
  • John York was given the title of Emeritus Professor of Biochemistry.

Retired status:

  • ZhenJiang Yang retired from his role as a research assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacology.
  • Eugenia Gurevich retired from her role as an associate professor in the Department of Pharmacology.
