Diseases affecting the brain range from neurodegenerative disorders (Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, MS) impacting thought, movement, and emotion. 

Depression is a serious mood disorder affecting how people feel, think, and act. Depression is characterized by persistent sadness, loss of interest, sleep/appetite changes, fatigue, and hopelessness. Causes involve genetics, environment, and life stress.

Addiction is a chronic condition that involves compulsive seeking and taking of a substance or performing of an activity despite negative or harmful consequences. Addiction can significantly impact one's health, relationships, and overall quality of life.

School of Medicine Basic Sciences researchers are developing drugs and therapies for neurodegenerative disorders, depression, and addiction.
