My project is exploring calcium signaling after wounding in Drosophila epithelia. After a wound, the very first signal is a dramatic increase in cytosolic calcium that spreads from the wound site. My goal is to characterize what pathways trigger calcium release, and how the calcium signal is then interpreted by the cells to transduce a proper wound healing response.
