DNA topology plays a role in how genetic material is replicated before cell division as well as how and when genes are transcribed. Our lab studies type II topoisomerases and their role in relieving the topological stress associated with DNA replication. My project specifically focuses on bacterial type II topoisomerases and the characterization of therapeutics designed to target these enzymes for antibacterial purposes
