Studying metabolic networks in algae to facilitate engineering for energy applications. Metabolic Flux Analysis in cyanobacteria and diatoms allows insight into metabolic perturbations induced by recombinant phenotypes. Identifying these perturbations allows informed decisions on which nodes in the network require modification to move towards an end product, such as biofuel precursors.
