The LINC complex (linker of nucleoskeleton and cytoskeleton) is responsible for transmitting mechanical forces from outside the cell to the nucleus. The proteins within this complex, and those that regulate it, have been implicated in processes such as nuclear positioning, gene regulation, and more. Using optical tweezers, I plan to investigate the mechanics of this force transduction at the single molecule level.
