Lync Phone Instructions
Overview
Vanderbilt is switching to VoIP (Voice over IP…Internet) with Microsoft Lync phones. This transition reduces infrastructure, support and deployment of voice services. In addition the VoIP client applications Lync delivers many new collaboration features, remote management and end user conveniences.
Basics
Place a call on Hold: From the In Call screen select Hold.
Answer a second call when you are in an active call: From the incoming call screen select Answer. Your active call is placed on hold and your second call is answered.
Switch between calls: Press the Home button on the phone and the select the Active Call. From the In Call screen use the up down arrow buttons to select the call that you want to activate and then select Resume.
Add others to an active call: From the In Call screen, select Menu and then select Add others. Enter a number or select a contact then press Add.
Transfer a call directly to someone else: From the In Call screen select Menu, and then select Transfer Directly To. Enter a number or select a contact, and then select Call.
Consult with someone before transferring a call: From the In Call screen, select Menu, and then select Consult then Transfer To. Enter a number or select a contact. After you speak with the person your transferring the call to, select Complete Transfer.
Cancel a consult transfer (if party is unable or unwilling to accept the call): Press End, then press Resume.
Activate the phone system when calling from a non-Vanderbilt number (such as your cell or home phone) dial: (615) 875-9100, then enter you r extension and your phone’s PIN.
Lync 2011 Requirements
Display resolution: Super VGA 1280 x 800
Processor: Intel only
Operating system: Mac OS X v10.5.8 (Leopard) or a later version including Mac OS X v10.6 (Snow Leopard) and Mac OS X v10.7 (Lion)
Other requirements:
Safari 5 or Firefox 5 for a new Lync for Mac feature, Meeting Join Office for Mac 2011 for new integration features.
Note: Lync for Mac does not work with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 or earlier versions.
Recommended minimum hardware and software for audio/video and desktop sharing.
Memory: 1 GB of RAM or more
Voice: Compatible microphone and speakers, headset with microphone, or equivalent device
Sample devices include a built-in Apple iSight webcam and other external devices that are compatible
with Mac OS X
