Blackwell, Macara, Southward-Smith Elected AAAS Fellows

Timothy Blackwell, Ian Macara, and Michelle Southard-Smith have been elected fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science this year. They are among 396 fellows from around the country selected by their peers “because of their efforts toward advancing science applications that are deemed scientifically or socially distinguished.”

They join other Cell and Developmental Biology primary faculty members Kathleen Gould (2011), David Miller (20130, William Tansey (20120, Alissa Weaver (2016), Susan Wente (2010), and Christopher Wright (2012) as AAAS fellows.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is an American international non-profit organization with the stated goals of promoting cooperation among scientists, defending scientific freedom, encouraging scientific responsibility, and supporting scientific education and science outreach for the betterment of all humanity. It is the world's largest general scientific society, with over 120,000 members and is the publisher of the well-known scientific journal Science.
