MSTPets: Part 1
MSTPets
Here’s an ode to our furry (or not so furry) friends who have helped us study for anatomy practicals, kept us company while we wrote our papers and thesis dissertations, and welcomed us home after a long shift on surgery.
MSTPet: Winifred “Winnie” Watchmaker (Breed TBD – Need to Genotype)
Age: 10 months old
MSTParent: Jennifer Watchmaker (G3)
Thesis Title: An Exploratory Study into the Ability of Medium-Sized Dogs to Open Refrigerators and Consume Hot Dogs
Fun Fact: Winifred was adopted out and brought back 3 times before finding her fur-ever home with me. She was challenging and a bit stubborn, so I knew we were soulmates. She’s been with me for 1 month now <3.
MSTPet: Goron (Bearded Dragon)
Age: 2.5 years old
MSTParents: Dr. Danny Winder (MSTP Associate Director) and Clay Winder (namer and primary owner)
Field of Study: Entomology
Fun Fact: We recently learned that Goron likely dreams. We speculate his dreamscape is filled with crickets and spinach….and neuroscience (http://science.sciencemag.org/content/352/6285/590).
MSTPet: Elvis
Age: 3 months
MSTParents: Chris Wijers (M1) and Kayla Hayes
Research Interests: Currently investigating the effects of urinating on the floor on human behavior. He also has an interest in investigating the maximum amount of bite force new toys and human ankles can withstand.
Fun Fact: His favorite snack is peaches.
MSTPets: Haku and Rune
MSTParent: Ayaka Sugiura (M2)
Ages: 11 months old and 6 months old
Area of Research: Relationship between Sleeping and Happiness (Haku)
Thesis Title: Misrepresentation of a Canine (Rune)
MSTPet: Johnny
Age: 1 year old
MSTParents: Stephanie Dudzinski (G2) and Sumeeth Jonathan (G2)
Field of Study: Archaeology (Bone Digging)
Fun Fact: Our furbaby was an unplanned adoption. During Step 1 studying, we took running study breaks and often ran to Love at First Sight to pet the puppies. We found him the week before we took Step 1. It truly was love at first sight, and we had to have him!
