Women in Training Social
by Camille Wang (G1)
The Women in Training (WIT) committee gathered for their first event of the academic year: a fall social on November 18, 2019. WIT aims to support women in the physician-scientist training pathway, with the long term goals of increasing retention of female physician-scientists and promoting long term career success.
Both faculty and students gathered in Eskind Biomedical Library to enjoy late afternoon affogatos (espresso poured over ice cream). Dr. Chris Williams represented the MSTP leadership team to give opening remarks and the WIT committee leadership presented an introduction and upcoming events for the year. MSTP Advising College Faculty Leaders Kim Rathmell, MD, PhD, Heather Pua, MD, PhD, and Lorraine Ware, MD attended the social and shared some of their experiences and advice with the group. The WIT committee plans to host a spring speaker seminar, as well as a service event in conjunction with the mini-MSTP. They are also organizing a near-peer mentoring system to foster interactions and facilitate mentorship specific to the needs of the MSTP student community.
