On Wednesday Dec 9, Dr. Lea Davis gave a thought provoking talk to the entire MSTP during our seminar series titled “Perpetuating Harm: A study of White supremacy from eugenics to modern genomics.” Dr. Davis discussed not only the history of race in genetics, but also the important implications of this history on today’s scientific research and medicine. Through this discussion, MSTP students were challenged to think about the effects of systemic racism and specifically how this system informs our research and patient interactions as future physician-scientists. This seminar was organized by the Vanderbilt MSTP antiracism, diversity, and inclusion council.
