2024 AAP/ASCI/APSA Joint Meeting
by Megan Tigue (G3)
Several members of the Vanderbilt MSTP attended the annual AAP/ASCI/APSA Joint Meeting April 4th – 7th in Chicago, IL. This conference represents a collaboration between the Association of American Physicians, the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the American Physician Scientists Association. The meeting features presentations of high-level discoveries from distinguished researchers and provides an environment of inspiration, collaboration, and collegiality for physician-scientists and those in the pathway to becoming physician-scientists.
Highlights of the weekend included our very own Clara Si giving an oral presentation as part of the Scientific Showcase Talks, a welcome reception for Vanderbilt faculty and students hosted by Chris Williams, the APSA dinner and Founder’s Award Presentation, and opportunities for networking, including the Specialty Interest Breakfast and Residency Luncheon. The 7 Vanderbilt MSTP students who attended the conference also spent time exploring downtown Chicago together and meeting students from other programs, including UAB and Stony Brook. This conference is a great way to see science from broad fields, discover different career opportunities available to physician scientists, and network with potential future colleagues and residency directors in several fields. Every year, the Vanderbilt APSA chapter sponsors travel awards for MSTP students to attend and network at this event. All G-phase students should consider applying next year!
