Orthopaedic Research Fellowship at UAB
Orthopaedic Surgery at UAB is offering a one year research program for medical students interested in applying for an orthopaedic residency.
This is the 6th year of this program and we have three available fellowship positions.
The research fellows will spend approximately 70% of the time in research activities, and 30% of the time pursuing clinical interests. Clinical time is spent shadowing in the clinic and OR along with attending resident conferences and journal clubs. The research year is overseen by Dr. Brent Ponce, a shoulder specialist. Additional faculty involved in mentoring of the research fellows includes, Dr. Ash Shah, foot and ankle, Dr. Skip Gilbert, pediatric orthopaedics, and Dr. Steven Theiss, Chairman and spine specialist. Research activities to expose the fellows to all aspects of orthopaedics and any of the faculty are encouraged. Previous fellows have pursued projects in shoulder, sports medicine, pediatrics, spine, hand, foot and ankle, joints and tumor.
The salary for the year-long fellowship is $25,000. All research fellows are guaranteed a residency interview.
