University of Rochester Medical Center URM clerkship program – (Application Deadline 05/01/18)

A limited number of visiting clerkship positions are available at the University of Rochester Medical Center from August through November of 2018 for select applicants from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine (URM) or who have a demonstrated vision and commitment to improving the health status of diverse patient populations via patient care, research and/or teaching. The visiting clerkship program is designed to give students an opportunity to experience training at URMC and to connect with faculty, residents, and 4th year medical students.
• Funding includes up to $1,000 for travel and housing reimbursement.
• Each student will be paired with a faculty member that will serve as a mentor and advisor.
• Each student will be given the opportunity to meet with the Residency Program Director.
• Each student will be paired with a URM resident and 4th year medical student who will introduce them to the medical center, its resources, and the Rochester community.

Eligibility
• Must be a registered student in good standing at their home school while participating in the externship
• Full-time, final year medical student attending a LCME-accredited U.S. medical school and have completed 3rd year core clerkships
• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Have a demonstrated vision and commitment to improving the health status of diverse patient populations via patient care, research and/or teaching

Requirements
• Completed visiting clerkship program application
• Official transcript
• USMLE Step 1 score and USMLE STEP 2 score if available
• One-page personal statement describing career goals and interest in pursuing a clerkship at the URMC
• Curriculum Vitae
• Letter of support from a Student Affairs Dean sent directly to omecached@urmc.rochester.edu
• Completed Criminal Background Check valid within one year of start of elective rotation

If accepted students will need to apply through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) system. This should be done only AFTER the students have been notified of their acceptance.
The application deadline is May 1, 2018. All materials must be submitted to the CACHED office via e-mail: omecached@urmc.rochester.edu
