Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Summer Camp – Looking for Nurses, Counselors, and Volunteers!

Posted by on Friday, March 30, 2018 in Uncategorized .

The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is searching for volunteer nurses & counselors to attend our summer camp program that will take place May 26-June 1 at YMCA Camp Widjiwagan in Antioch, TN.

Volunteers will be eligible to gain 168 volunteer hours through this week long camp. All training will be provided.

Volunteer nurses: Must have an LPN degree or higher and be able to work in the state of Tennessee. Volunteer nurses supervise and maintain the health and well-being of our campers by dispensing medications, delivering first-aid and more.

Volunteer counselors: Must be at least 16 years of age, will be paired with 1 camper to care for and must attend the entire week of camp. It'll be the volunteers responsibility to stay with the camper all week long and assist them with activities, transfers, self confidence and more.

PLEASE NOTE: We also have extra opportunities for students who need volunteer hours for Sunday, May 27th during our camper check-in. Duties on this single-day volunteer opportunity includes: bag check ins, lice check, temperature check, medication check in, etc.

These opportunities are a unique, hands-on experience that provides education about this life-threatening disease in a new light. These diseases cause muscle weakness, so we need as much support as we can get to help these kids (ages 8-17) have an amazing week. I have attached a flyer with more information. Interested applicants can go to www.mda.org/volunteer to apply or email me directly with questions at jwaits@mdausa.org
