We do life together.
Orientation – Year 1
Start your med school journey off right with this three-day official introduction to the School of Medicine.
Orientation begins the Wednesday prior to classes and is filled with meet-and-greets, training sessions, and a student organization fair. You’ll get to know classmates who’ll soon turn into lifelong friends!
Connect with the Dean – Year 1
Our med school deans will soon recognize your name and face, but they don’t stop there. They want to hear your stories, learn what sparks your curiosity, and really get to know your perspective on medicine. Early on in your first year, you’ll have the opportunity to get to know our Associate Dean for Medical Student Affairs.
Specialty Speed Dating – Year 1
This annual event puts a new twist on the traditional career fair, introducing you to specialties in medicine in a single evening.
In the first round, you’ll learn the essential information about each specialty in a quick three-minute “date.” In the second round, you’ll choose a few areas to return to and hear more details about the specialties that caught your attention. Our first-year students enjoy this event so much that some of them come back again in Year 2!
Boards Bash – Year 2
Now that you’ve finished your first-year courses and are almost done with your clerkship year, it’s time to start thinking about the Step 1 exam.
Careers in Medicine faculty and student leaders will support you through the preparation process for this exam—beginning with the beloved tradition of Boards Bash! This energizing event will introduce you to the basics of “dedicated,” a six-week study period built into the curriculum.
At Boards Bash, third- and fourth-year students will share their tips for the exam, as well as example study schedules for the dedicated period. By the end of the night, you’ll know exactly what and how to study for a successful Step 1 experience!
Pathway To Match – Years 3 and 4
The residency application process is infamous for being one of the most stressful seasons in med school, but you don’t have to go through it alone. As you narrow down your specialty options, our Careers in Medicine team will:
- help you craft your CV and personal statement
- advise you as you ask for letters of recommendations
- lead a variety of workshops on everything from packing your interview bag to creating your rank order list
