To mark the start of the academic year and to orient new students to the major tasks ahead of them, the Office of Medical Student Affairs hosts the official orientation for our incoming first-year class. Formal orientation is a three-day event that begins with the official introduction of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine incoming class on Wednesday prior to classes. The rest of the day consists of meet and greet, sponsored by third- and fourth-year students. Thursday is a full day of learning, and Friday features a student organization fair that showcases our many student organizations at VUSM. The week concludes with another student sponsored day—Medical Outdoor Orientation—where third- and fourth-year students host trips including camping, rafting, and hiking, which gives new students a chance to get to know some people who will become lifelong friends.
