Networking Breakfast
A networking breakfast for Symposium registrants, Symposium speakers, and local companies and alumni will be held on Wednesday, July 28 from 7:30-9:00AM. The breakfast will be held in the Ballroom of the Student Life Center.
The recommended attire is business casual.
During the networking breakfast, the Symposium keynote speaker, Dr. Eric Haseltine, will sign his new book, Long Fuse Big Bang: Achieving Long-term Success through Daily Victories. Dr. Haseltine currently owns a consulting firm based near Washington DC, and his distinguished career includes leadership positions at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the National Security Agency, and Disney Imagineering. Complimentary copies of his book will be available to the first 200 breakfast attendees. Dr. Haseltine's visit and book signing are generously sponsored by the Vanderbilt Medical Alumni Association.
Following breakfast, Dr. Brianna Blaser, Project Director for Outreach at AAAS/ScienceCareers, will give a talk titled, "Making New Contacts: Learning to Network Strategically." This talk will help you find ways to make networking work for you. Many people have negative impressions of networking, but by being strategic about meeting people, networking can become easier. She'll discuss the myths and realities surrounding networking and different strategies for networking including: informational interviewing, attending conferences, participation in professional societies, and social networking websites. She'll also discuss some of the nuts and bolts of networking including: proper etiquette, business cards, elevator pitches, and following up with contacts.
Don't miss this rare opportunity to meet a wide variety of life science professionals! As the list of breakfast guests is confirmed, their names will be added to this website.
