Alpaca Day is an opportunity for Vanderbilt Pharmacology students, staff, faculty, and their families and friends to enjoy some fellowship in a rural setting in Waverly, TN. These outings started almost a decade ago shortly after Drs. Brian Wadzinski and Ben Spiller (two Vanderbilt Pharmacology faculty members) founded Turkey Creek Biotechnology, which partners with Vanderbilt to develop alpaca-derived antibodies and nanobodies recognizing antigens of biomedical importance. After visiting the famous alpacas, the groups gather at the Wadzinski’s place to enjoy an afternoon playing games, riding 4-wheelers, eating great food, and talking over a bonfire. Alpaca Day is a wonderful bonding experience for all participants in a beautiful country setting.
