The Annual Career Symposium is a large event to bring together PhD students and postdocs for 1-2 days of career and professional development. The Annual Symposium is typically attended by 300-600+ trainees.

"Exploring Avenues to Careers in Academia"

The BRET Office of Career Development, in partnership with the Vanderbilt Medical Alumni Association and training grants in biomedical sciences, are happy to announce the annual Career Symposium – “Exploring Avenues to Careers in Academia” — on Friday, May 30, 2014, in Light Hall. 

Think you know what a career in academia looks like? Think again! Our myriad of speakers have pursued various staff and faculty careers in diverse academic environments, from research universities, to government agencies, to professional schools and teaching colleges. Join us as we explore these career options and discuss key skills required for success in varied fields.

The keynote address, "Negotiating for Success" will feature Dr. Shari Barkin, the William K. Warren Foundation Chair in Medicine; Marian Wright Edelman Professor of Pediatrics; Director, Division of General Pediatrics; Vanderbilt School of Medicine.
