Hosted by the Vanderbilt University Office of Federal Relations
in partnership with The Vanderbilt Graduate School, the BRET Office of Career Development,
and the Center for Student Professional Development

Application Deadline: Wednesday, September 10, 2014

This two-day event will provide Vanderbilt University students and postdoctoral fellows in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) an opportunity to learn how federal STEM policy is made and the role of advocacy by various stakeholders in achieving policy goals. Participants will hear from officials – including some VU alumni – who work in both the Executive and Legislative branches of government as well as scientific societies, associations and coalitions who are actively engaged in influencing and promoting federal investments in science and engineering.

For STEM students and postdocs thinking about careers in public policy, this behind the scenes look will provide insights to potential career opportunities.

Up to 25 graduate and undergraduate students and postdoctoral fellows will be selected through a competitive application process. Applications are due by September 10 and selected participants will be notified by September 17.

Medical center biomedical sciences PhD students and postdoctoral fellows who are selected to attend will have their airfare, hotel accommodations, and some meals fully sponsored as part of the ASPIRE initiative of the BRET Office of Career Development. (Selected participants will be responsible for the cost of transportation to and from the airport and some meals that are not part of the program).
