Job description
MedImmune has an opening for a Scientist I/II, Cancer Immunologist within the Vaccines Platform Group (VPG) in Gaithersburg, MD. The position will be responsible for the preclinical immunological assessment of multiple cancer vaccine platform modalities and for developing and conducting in vivo rodent tumor models to assess efficacy. Ultimately, this position will evaluate and determine preferred combinations of cancer vaccines with other immunotherapeutic agents and/or standards-of-care. The individual must understand the strengths and weaknesses of current methods of preclinical immunologic assessments of vaccine candidates as well as have a good understanding of T cell and tumor biology and the methods to assess tumor take and progression. May supervise research associates within a direct or matrix reporting structure.

Education:
Scientist I:

* Ph.D. in Immunology, Oncology, Cell Biology or related field with 0-3 years experience 
* M.S.in Immunology, Oncology, Cell Biology or related field with 10-13 years experience 
* B.S. in Immunology, Oncology, Cell Biology or related field with 13-15 years experience

Scientist II

* Ph.D. in Immunology, Oncology, Cell Biology or related field with 3-7 years experience 
* M.S.in Immunology, Oncology, Cell Biology or related field with 10-13 years experience 
* B.S. in Immunology, Oncology, Cell Biology or related field with 13-15 years experience

Position:

  • The successful candidate will have a demonstrated broad theoretical and practical knowledge of the fields of T Cell Immunology and/or Cancer Biology.
  • The candidate must be able to define critical scientific questions/hypothesis and address them through the design and execution of controlled experimentation. 
  • The ideal candidate will have previous experience with in vivo murine syngeneic tumor model development and the immunological assessment of vaccine and/or pathogen induced cellular immune responses (CD8 T cell focus). 
  • Demonstrated ability for scientific insight and conceptual thinking. 
  • Extensive experience with multi-color flow cytometry is required. 
  • The ability to work cross-functionally with scientists from other disciplines is essential. 
  • Ability to prepare precise technical reports, summaries, protocols, quantitative analyses, and maintain appropriate documentation. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Highly organized, with the ability to develop focused work packages, prioritize based on defined goals, and work both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with developing and/or conducting in vitro antigen presentation assays for the purpose of studying human T cell responses.
  • Experience developing therapeutic vaccines for oncology or chronic infections. 
  • Experience supervising research associates.
