Job Posting: Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy/Biomedical Engineering Program, University of South Carolina
The Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The School of Medicine was formed in the late 1970s and has experienced substantial growth in its educational and research programs. The Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy has an energetic group of faculty with research strengths in cardiovascular biology, tissue engineering, biomechanics, regenerative medicine, nanomaterials, reproductive physiology, functional anatomy and extracellular matrix. The department plays a pivotal role in medical, graduate and undergraduate educational programs at the University of South Carolina.
Successful candidates are expected to have research interests that integrate with the University of South Carolina Biomedical Engineering Program and will have an appointment in this program. This is a rapidly growing program that currently supports over 350 undergraduate and graduate students and is comprised of over 50 core and affiliate faculty members spanning the School of Medicine, College of Engineering and Computing, and College of Arts and Sciences.
Outstanding applicants working in the area of regenerative medicine, tissue engineering and cardiovascular development and disease are especially encouraged to apply. This is a university-wide initiative established to assist in the recruitment of outstanding new tenure-track faculty to the university whose research will bridge units and colleges.
Applicants must have a PhD and postdoctoral experience in a relevant field of cell biology or bioengineering and a record indicating exceptional potential for research. The successful candidates are expected to establish an externally funded (NIH R01 or equivalent) interdisciplinary research program of national and international prominence and demonstrate dedication to medical, graduate and undergraduate education with teaching requirements within both the School of Medicine and the Biomedical Engineering Program. Appointed faculty will receive strong mentorship from senior faculty in the School of Medicine and in the Biomedical Engineering program including faculty associated with multi-investigator NIH Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) and IDeA Network of Biomedical Research (INBRE) programs. Depending on their research interests, appointed faculty may be eligible to apply for funds from these grant programs.
