Patterson Intellectual Property Law, PC seeks candidates for the position of Patent Agent/Scientific Advisor. Patterson is a 20 lawyer intellectual property law firm in Nashville, TN.
Qualified individuals will have:
BS/MS/PhD in one of the following fields:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Biomedical Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Biochemistry
Industry experience in your field of technical training is a plus, but not required.
Excellent writing skills.
The position involves the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, and advising attorneys on technical aspects of patent litigation. The successful candidates will begin working as Scientific Advisors and will be expected to train for and take the examination for registration as a Patent
Agent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office at an early stage in their career. The firm’s training program includes both in-house training and attendance at external professional training programs. You will be mentored at the firm by a Patent Attorney experienced in your technical field.
Beginning annual compensation is in the range of $70,000 – 90,000 depending upon qualifications. Candidates with BS degree and no substantial industry experience will typically begin at $70,000. An increase of $10,000 in base annual compensation will be provided upon becoming a registered Patent Agent. Patent Agents will also be eligible for performance based bonuses.
Paid internship positions potentially leading to subsequent full time employment on graduation are also available for qualified students. We have both a full time summer internship program, and we hire local students part-time on a flexible basis during the school year.
