WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Heartland CARES (HCI) is seeking a compassionate, energetic, and organized individual to rebuild the education and prevention program for the only HIV service organization in western Kentucky.
This position will work closely with staff and clients to provide information to the community about the HIV and HCV epidemics, promote behaviors to prevent seroconversions and identify people who are HIV+ our service area and refer them to care.
The successful candidate will share HCI’s commitment to the HIV and AIDS continuum of care model and the goal of an AIDS-free generation.
The successful candidate will have the full support of the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.
The successful candidate must want to tackle the challenge of building a sustainable program from scratch.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Health Education and Prevention Team Lead provides leadership for community-based education and prevention activities combatting HIV, hepatitis and other sexual transmitted infections.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, implement and evaluate primary prevention activities to avert new infections among most-at-risk populations
- Supervise education and prevention team
- Oversee and participate in community-based testing events and campaigns
- Oversee social media outreach
- Develop messaging to raise awareness and reduce stigma for HIV, hepatitis, etc.
- Collaborate with community partners, faith-based organizations and individuals from most-at-risk populations
- Work with clinical team to link individuals testing positive to clinical and social services
- Lead education and prevention strategic planning team
- Synthesize epidemiological, demographic and other data to assist in planning
- Collect, analyze and distribute program data for internal planning and public education
- Communicate with the public regarding the state of the epidemics, risk factors, prevention programs, etc.
- Develop and monitor department budget
- Assist with development of PEP and PrEP programs among most-at-risk populations and the medical community
- Research funding opportunities education and prevention programs
- Participate in organizational CQI projects
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in public health, public administration, nursing, social work, behavioral sciences or related field
- 5+ years working in the trenches of prevention and health education projects in the US
- Qualitative and quantitative data analysis experience
- Supervisory experience
- Experience working with communities of color, stigmatized populations, faith-based organizations
- Outstanding writing and oral communication skills
- Understanding of prevention and education evidence-based best practice
- Proposal writing experience
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to work throughout western Kentucky
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends
- PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Experience in public health planning and management at the local level
- Experience developing new programs from scratch
- Experience with one-on-one health screenings
- Experience in international HIV/AIDS programs
- Experience living and working in rural, conservative communities
- Spanish-language ability
