Job Opportunity: Science and Engineering Education Fellow (SEEF) in Biology, Stanford University
Job description: The Biology Department at Stanford University is seeking applications for a Science and Engineering Education Fellow (SEEF) in Biology to support committed faculty in implementing and assessing current development of a new undergraduate curriculum. Strong candidates will have a PhD in the Biosciences or in Biology education and strong research interests in the development, application and assessment of innovative teaching and communication practices for Biology. Experience in assessment and/or facilitating active learning is desirable.
The Fellow will join a community of 6 Science and Engineering Education Fellows across STEM disciplines at Stanford that will provide some additional support, training and professional development opportunities to help prepare them for possible careers in teaching and science education.
The Biology Department is redesigning the undergraduate major to increase emphasis on skill development and incorporate active learning strategies into the curriculum. The New Undergraduate Biology Major will be offered in 2017-18, and includes new Bio Foundations courses representing six core Biology disciplines. The Fellow will collaborate closely with Biology faculty to guide development and assessment of one or more Foundations courses and implement consistency in learning goals and practices across the series. The position will include opportunities to co-teach in these courses and to produce course materials, including video or online resources.

Collaborations with other Stanford departments and schools, as well as other institutions will be encouraged. We seek a self-motivated, creative individual who has outstanding quantitative, communication and interpersonal skills, and who enjoys working both independently and as part of a team.
The appointment begins as early as August 2017, for a two-year term that is renewable for one additional year depending on programmatic need and job performance. Starting annual salary will be $70,000 with an additional one-time supplement of up to $2,000 that can be used for professional development opportunities and work-related expenses.
