Tuition-Free Academic English Classes for VU students, faculty, and staff at the ELC. The Vanderbilt University English Language Center (VU ELC) offers tuition-free* courses for individuals at VU who have a first language other than English.

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) classes include the following:

• Academic Writing
• Academic Speaking
• Pronunciation

VU ELC Writing and Speaking Consultations

1-to-1 Writing/Speaking Consultations are individual meetings designed to address the writing and speaking needs of individuals who have a first language other than English enrolled in academic programs.

*The ELC offers one tuition-free English-language course each Fall and Spring semester to Vanderbilt individuals who have a first language other than English and are undergraduate, graduate and professional students or VU faculty, staff and scholars.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) employees are ineligible for tuition discounts. All applicants may be required to present official Vanderbilt identification and letters of appointment.

Placement is first-come, first served and is based on schedule availability. Priority enrollment is given to matriculated, full-time students. Auditing is not available. Click here to sign up for an EAP class at the VU ELC.
