The Director of the Research and Faculty Development Team (RFDT) in the Office of Research & Economic Development (ORED) is responsible for the University of Idaho (UI) proposal, research and faculty development efforts and for the coordination of a team approach to support the UI’s goal to be classified as an R1 research institution by Carnegie Classification. The Director is responsible for overall implementation of the RFDT mission to: (1) help faculty build the capabilities and visibility needed to advance their scholarship, research, and creative activities across all career stages, and (2) facilitate collaboration around strategic funding opportunities, forming new research teams and alliances while leveraging existing strengths and partnerships. The Director is accountable for managing the efforts of all RFDT members.

Key Job Functions:

  • Promote and develop research and scholarly activity
  • Provide RFDT Leadership and Management
  • Participate as part of the VPRED Senior Leadership Team (SLT)

Position Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required, Ph.D. preferred. Degree in science, engineering, or a related field preferred, although other disciplines will be considered.
  • Three years direct management experience.
  • Three years of experience in the areas of faculty collaboration, grantsmanship training, proposal development and/or faculty training. 
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills. 
  • Extensive knowledge of extramural program administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors. 
  • Demonstrated experience developing competitive grant proposals and analyzing solicitations including the ability to translate technical concepts into a fundable proposal. 
  • Strong interpersonal and organizations skills with a demonstrated ability to build consensus and lead teams in order to achieve desired outcomes.
