Napa Valley College is hiring an Associate Dean to support the Math, Engineering, Science Achievement/California Community College Program (MESA/CCCP) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Center Program. MESA is an academic preparation program that assists economically disadvantaged (eligible for financial aid) community college students to succeed in math, science, and engineering so they can transfer to four-year institutions and successfully attain degrees in these fields. STEM is focused on strengthening and expanding educational opportunities for all students and striving to close the educational achievement gap in our community. STEM provides specialized STEM tutoring, mentoring and Supplemental Instruction in STEM courses, and provides academic development, bi-lingual STEM counseling, enhanced student support services, and a Summer Bridge Program for incoming high school students. 

The incumbent in this position will be responsible for developing, implementing, directing, supervising, monitoring, and evaluating the activities and personnel of the Math, Engineering, Science Achievement/California Community College Program (MESA/CCCP) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Center. The position is also responsible for facilitating the academic counseling and personal advising for all MESA students. The position reports to the Assistant Superintendent/Vice President, Student Affairs.

This is a full-time, 12-months-per-year, academic-administrative position. The salary is appropriately placed on Range 15 of the current Administrative/Confidential salary schedule. Initial salary placement is $6,691 to $7,377 month, with future steps up to $8,540 month. Placement on the salary schedule is commensurate with experience. The college offers a fringe benefit package including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, employee assistance program, and retirement system membership. Assignment includes 19 paid holidays, 22 vacation days, and 12 days sick leave annually.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Earned master's degree from an accredited institution.

Experience:

Minimum one year of experience counseling or directing an educational program.
 

Desirable Qualifications

Demonstrated experience coordinating group activities, including workshops and student orientation events;
Excellent human relations skills, including the ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with program participates and college staff and faculty;
Successful experience in grant-writing;
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
