Research Analyst III, My Cancer Genome, VUMC, Nashville, TN
Unit Summary
The My Cancer Genome team develops biomedical informatics tools and curates knowledge related to cancer precision medicine, with the goal of providing decision support to oncology clinicians. Major projects include My Cancer Genome, the Clinical Molecular Consult Service (CMOCS), and AACR Project GENIE, among others. My Cancer Genome is a knowledgebase, web application (www.mycancergenome.org), and set of tools that provides information about molecular alterations in cancer and allows physicians to match patient tumor genotypes to therapies and clinical trials. CMOCS is a decision support service that will bring the benefits of a molecular tumor board to any patient who receives tumor genetic testing. Finally, data sharing projects like AACR Project GENIE allow discovery across very large data sets that cannot be assembled at a single academic institution.
Position Overview
The Research Term Professional has an overall scope of responsibilities equal to that of a Research Analyst III and this has been approved as a new full-time/non-exempt term position lasting six months to one year. The My Cancer Genome team is working on developing the Clinical Molecular Oncology Consult Service. This process includes software, workflow, and content development, as well as several efforts to evaluate the utility of the service. The successful candidate will focus on content development. In addition to participating in tasks such as clinical trial curation, grant writing, and content generation, the staff scientist will play a central role in the rapid expansion of therapeutic and prognostic assertions within MCG, as well as helping to define the functional requirements of and test the new curation tools we are developing. This work will involve review and annotation of published medical literature, extraction of data from publicly available databases, and use of other data sources (such as BioVU, GENIE, ClinGen, or others). Position Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s and 4 or more years required time in the field
Desired
- PhD in Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Cancer Biology or related degree and 4 or more years required time in the field
We are looking for a detail-oriented Ph.D.-level scientist with cancer biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or similar expertise preferred. Interest in biomedical informatics, scientific writing, and/or biocuration very helpful.
