Senior Manager of Education Programs, Zukerman Institute, Columbia University, New York
Columbia University's Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute supports interdisciplinary neuroscience research and discovery by scientists and scholars across the university and promises to be the most comprehensive institute for brain science.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Scientific Programs, the Senior Manager for Education Programs is responsible for managing public education programs about brain science at the Zuckerman Institute. The Manager contributes to setting the strategy and direction of programming, as well as manages the day-to-day operations of a number of programs.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Maintains the functionality of the Education Laboratory in the Jerome L Greene Science Center;
- Oversees implementation of programs targeting children, teachers, and the general public;
- Manages a team of full-time and part-time science educators;
- Serves as a liaison with University officials and external stakeholders to promote efforts and align programs to best practices;
- Partners with the Senior Director of Scientific Programs, contribute to the strategic planning of public programs; align public programs with strategic objectives of Institute
- Maintains external partnerships to enhance delivery of programming objectives
- Fosters a community of scientists engaging with education programs
- Maintains functional education and outreach space in the Greene Science Center
- In partnership with the Senior Director and the Development team, the Senior Manager aims to identify and steward potential donors for funding of educational efforts;
- Seeks and applies for federal and private grants to support education objectives;
- Works with the Communications team to effectively promote education programs to Columbia community and external audiences.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications for Grade
A bachelor's degree and at least four (4) years' experience teaching science and/or science communication to diverse audiences is required; Must have a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience. Must be proficient in MS Office, particularly Word and Excel.

The individual must be able to coordinate and collaborate with multiple stakeholders. The successful candidate must be proactive and engaging, flexible in nature, possess sound judgment with a collaborative style that fosters teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization. Must have a commitment to exceptional quality.
Preferred Qualifications
A broad knowledge of neuroscience or related discipline, advanced degree in the field is preferred.
