The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB), in partnership with the Keck Graduate Institute, is offering a one-week intensive course from July 9-14, 2018, at the Keck Graduate Institute in Claremont, CA. This course will accommodate 50 graduate students and postdocs (international and domestic). The course registration fee is $525, with an additional, optional accommodations package of $350. To apply, you must be a member of the ASCB and submit a personal statement, CV, and recommendation letter. The deadline is April 13, 2018.

The course will introduce PhD scientists to the skills they need to thrive in industry and will expose them to the culture, organizational structures, and practices of life science companies through MBA-style, case-based classroom experiences, career networking, and a team-based project. They will learn how academic science is commercialized and gain insight into the way industry views scientific research. The course is designed for advanced graduate students with at least three years of research experience and for postdocs.

Participants in the course over the past several years have been extremely successful in landing industry jobs, as evidenced by the statistics available on the website. Moreover, they have ended up in a close-knit network of like-minded individuals.

** Please note: if you are interested in applying for this opportunity, please let us (the BRET Office of Career Development) know if you are accepted! The Vanderbilt ASPIRE program has travel scholarships available for qualifying students and postdocs, and we may be able to support the remaining portion of your travel.
