Job Opportunity: Scientific Writer, axialHealthcare, Nashville, TN
The Scientific Writer will work within Research and Development to prepare publications with scientific results, clinical perspectives, and responses to current events; all relating to complex pain care and the opioid epidemic. The writer must have experience with multiple formats, including: white papers, blog posts, news articles, technical documents, and peer-reviewed publication. axialHealthcare maintains a library of evidence-based articles and clinical guidelines, and the Scientific Writer will be an active contributor. While the Scientific Writer will have access to expert statisticians, data scientists, and clinicians, this individual should feel comfortable conducting basic data analysis and medical literature review. Experience accessing national public health data sources is a plus and should be mentioned in the cover letter.
Position Responsibilities:
- Writing, including simplifying technical language to understandable text specific to audience, as well as providing clear outlines for content structure and layout.
- Cross-functional collaboration to provide scientific writing support.
- Contribute to publication strategy planning and execution.
- Support the Communications team with scientific interpretation and expert content development in press pitches and marketing collateral.
- Manage major publications, setting scope and including key stakeholders.
- Documentation, including citations and credits.
- Proponent for reproducible research (experience using knitr in R and Rstudio is bonus).
- Strongly aligned with “publish to promote”.
- Eagerness to develop deep subject matter expertise (e.g. reading books, listening to podcasts, etc.).
- Summarize and synthesize data and information from multiple sources, interpret and translate findings into meaningful information.
- Conduct basic data analysis and medical literature review.
- Maintain reference library using Zotero software.
Position Requirements:
- Education in health or clinical sciences.
- PhD (preferred) or MS with substantial work experience.
- 3+ years of experience working as a scientific writer in healthcare.
- Experience in authoring scientific publications for peer-reviewed journals.
- Expert writing abilities, including scientific interpretation.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.
- Resiliency and flexibility to “drop everything” for changing priorities.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are a must.
- Strong motivation and positive attitude.
