The German Institute of Human Nutrition, Potsdam-Rehbruecke, is a member of the Leibniz Association. The institute’s mission is to conduct experimental and clinical research in the field of nutrition and health, with the aim of understanding the molecular basis of nutrition-dependent diseases, and of developing new strategies for treatment and prevention (Website: http://www.dife.de/?lang=en).
We invite applications for the the newly founded Junior Research Group Neurocircuit Development and Function (NDF) for 1 Postdoc (m/f/d).
Specifically, the Junior Research Group is interested in how the maternal dietary environment can negatively influence the development and function of key brain circuits mediating aspects of energy homeostasis and behavior.
Tasks
- Identification of altered neurocircuit development due to maternal dietary changes
- Functional analysis of circuits using in vivo optogenetic and chemogenetic modulations
- Performing metabolic and behavioral tests to assess alterations to whole animal physiology
- Presentation of research results (in scientific journals, colloquia and conferences)
Requirements and Skills
- Excellent master and/or doctoral degree in neuroscience, biochemistry, biology or a related discipline
- Experience with modern molecular biological and biochemical methods, knowledge of optogenetics/chemogenetics and/or surgical procedures is a bonus
- Experience in animal experimentation
- Expertise in molecular biological and advanced imaging (confocal and/or LSFM) techniques
- Ability to work independently and to supervise undergraduates and PhD students
- Applicants should be highly-motivated, ambitious and hard-working scientists who wish to be part of a collaborative, international team within a superb scientific environment
- Excellent English (in speaking and writing) and computer skills, knowledge of German is a bonus, but not required
The advertised position is available for 2 years, with the possibility of extension. The level of salary will be determined on the basis of standard/tariff conditions, present qualifications and professional experience.
