ROLE RESPONSIBILTIES
As a Senior Scientist, you will be at the center of our operations and you’ll find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality. You will join a larger team of scientists across multiple sites focused on developing and optimizing recovery and purification processes for gene therapy vectors for early- and late-phase clinical trials. You will leverage your experience in laboratory research to develop robust, efficient, scalable strategies for improving process performance.
You will be recognized as a technical expert and a scientific contributor. With your deep knowledge of the discipline, you will be an active team member whose decisions impact the project. You will be responsible for the isolation, purification, and characterization of proteins from recombinant and natural sources. Your scientific judgment will be leveraged to adapt standard methods and techniques by applying prior work experience. You will be forecasting and planning resource requirements for your project team. Your creativity in developing novel processes and new ideas will be used frequently. You will undertake mentoring activities to guide team members.

How you will achieve it:
- Contribute and influence at the project team level.
- Ability to troubleshoot scientific and technical challenges and contribute to their resolution.
- Develop in-process analytical methods to monitor process performance or solve process issues.
- Perform timely notebook entries and review for completed experiments.
- Satisfactorily complete all Good Laboratory Practices {part of GxP} and safety training in compliance with departmental requirements and follow appropriate safety practices in the workplace.
- Prepare internally reviewed technical reports, make oral presentations to scientists and management, and publish externally.
- Design and execute mammalian cell culture experiments with the goal of developing robust and scalable processes for viral vectors with appropriate product quality attributes for clinical applications.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
● Bachelor’s degree with 9 + years of experience, Master’s degree with 7+ years of experience, or Ph. D. with 0-4 years of experience in a biological or engineering discipline (Biotechnology, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, or equivalent)
- Experience in recombinant protein purification process development, technology transfer and/or bioprocess manufacturingPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in process development with in-process analytical techniques
- Experience transferring biologics processes to pilot plants or manufacturing organizations, and knowledge of data acquisition and controls systems in these environment
- Demonstrated ability to drive for results and drive innovative research programs independently
- Good understanding of protein chemistry and protein analytics, including the recent scientific literature, is required
- Strong working knowledge of the drug development process for progression of a biological incumbent
- Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently and in a collaborative environment
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency with personal computers including word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software
