The Center for Knowledge Management (CKM) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) offers a one-year Knowledge Management Fellow appointment.

This one-year term position is designed to provide training in a dynamic health care environment where fellows have unique opportunities for advanced knowledge management training in precision medicine, evidence provision, and biomedical informatics. It also offers unique exposure to all facets of a dynamic, innovative, and internationally-recognized knowledge management setting.

Although not guaranteed, an opportunity of continued employment may be offered at the end of the one-year term position given appropriate demonstration of skills/knowledge, successful completion of initial training, and mutual agreement that CKM is a good fit for the candidate.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

A bachelor’s degree, coupled with a true passion (envisioned or realized) towards the health sciences; proven high-level oral and written communication; strong organizational, analytical, critical thinking skills; high-level proficiency with technology and willingness to continue to learn new technologies; and a great degree of flexibility, intellectual curiosity, motivation, attention to detail, and customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:

A master’s or PhD in the field of medical librarianship is preferred. High consideration will also be given to individuals with a master’s in English and/or Education. The successful candidate will possess:

– proven high-level oral and written communication skills
– strong organizational, analytical, strategic planning, and critical thinking skills
– effective time management and prioritization skills that yield satisfactory results when pressured for time or when significant challenges arise
– ability to easily adapt to change as needed, to best reflect the needs of the organization
– a strong sense of self-direction, ownership, and a dedication to seeking resolution to problems
– an evident interest in lifelong learning and in contributing to the profession through projects and scholarly communication
– the ability to prioritize and work both independently and as part of a team
enthusiasm and excitement for working in a fast-paced, highly-demanding and dynamic environment where precision medicine and pharmacogenetics are top priorities

Training Approach:

Fellows experience a variety of responsibilities such as actively participating and contributing to research projects and scholarly communications; working with clinicians and researchers; enhancing knowledge management tools; and providing knowledge management services designed to best reflect the needs of the medical center.

The training relies on a proven project-based management approach for learning and draws from a series of internally-taught modules, workshops and classes. The fellow is expected to complete a detailed learning plan in areas agreed upon with knowledge management leadership and demonstrate knowledge gained in skills verification sessions.

Salary and Benefits:
