Whether you are preparing for a career within or beyond the academy, you will be working with other people towards common goals. This interactive workshop is designed for you to explore team dynamics and practice key team skills that will give you a foundation for working effectively in teams in future.
Part 1: The Structure
During this session participants will be will introduce to key team theory, structural frameworks, and group strategies, including Tuckman’s stages of development, roles, interdisciplinary perspectives, goal setting, and task management. They will also explore the roles they naturally gravitate to in a team environment.
Part 2: The People
This session will focus on communication and conflict management strategies within team settings, critical interpersonal skills necessary for effect teamwork. Participants will explore the individual mindsets and assumptions they bring to a group and tools and strategies for actively listening to teammates and navigating conflict successfully.
This workshop is open to all graduate school students (PhD, MA, MFS, MLAS & MS) and postdocs. Spaces for this workshop are limited and registration is required. We ask that you only register if you are able to attend both sessions.
