Summary
The Scientific Editor is responsible for assisting in the preparation, writing and submission of a variety of documents for publication across media, including but not limited to periodicals, books, websites, posters, and newspapers. The Scientific Editor provides written material support for the Children’s Research Foundation Institute (CFRI) as needed. This position also serves as an educational resource for individuals interested in scientific writing and publication. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

Key Job Responsibilities
- Assist investigators with all phases of manuscript development – including drafts, figures, editing, and proofing.
- Assist with manuscript submission process, such as obtaining co-author permissions and other required information.
- Provide guidance on meeting publication requirements for submission of various media.
- Assist with addressing reviewers’ comments and the preparation and submission of revised manuscripts.
- Assist and prepare grants for submission to funding agencies.
- Serve as an educational resource on scientific writing through lectures and distribution of written materials.
- Assist with organizing annual Pediatric Research Day, including preparing and editing the program book. May assist in other events that feature significant distribution of written material.
- Assist with preparation of the CFRI Newsletter and other written materials.
Physical Requirements
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: light work – exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
