Job Opportunity: Cardiovascular Biologist, Therapeutic Discovery, StrideBio, Research Triangle Park, NC
POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a motivated Scientist to join the cardiovascular group within the Therapeutic Discovery team. You will partner with and assist project teams through the development and execution of cell-based assays to assess novel recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) vectors. You will be expected to have strong technical, laboratory, and documentation skills.
You will utilize your talents to independently design and execute experiments using a wide variety of cell and molecular biology techniques to test the therapeutic potential of rAAV vectors and generate data that will drive decisions around new disease opportunities. You will be joining an experienced research team that is responsible for discovering lead rAAV vectors for continued preclinical development. Laboratory activities will constitute approximately 70% of the time.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and optimize mRNA (qPCR), protein (ELISA, Western blot, ICC) and functional assays (calcium imaging, multi-electrode arrays) to be applied across multiple projects and programs
- Maintain multiple cell types in culture, including iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes, and perform transient transfection and rAAV transduction experiments for gene expression
- Design, execute, analyze, and interpret cell-based assays using multiple in vitro disease models
- Conduct molecular cloning and preparation of rAAV transgene constructs
- May participate in technology development related to cell biology.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date records of laboratory activities via electronic documentation
- Technical writing of procedures, protocols, and reports
- Maintain and update knowledge of instrumentation and laboratory needs
- Conduct troubleshooting analysis
- Perform other essential responsibilities as applicable
REQUIRED TRAINING AND SKILLS:
- BS with a minimum of 7 years / MS with 5 years / PhD with 0-2 years of experience in cardiac biology/physiology, molecular biology, cell biology, or other relevant scientific areas. The level is commensurate with experience
- Cell culture experience is required
- Cell-based assay development experience is required
- Relevant knowledge and industrial experience in the field of gene therapy development is desired
- Exemplary organizational skills, along with notebook management and writing communications
- Must be a self-motivated, flexible, and driven professional who can effectively perform in a rapidly changing, small company environment
- Must be able to work independently, but is also a team player with strong collaborative skills
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Previous drug discovery and project management experience is desired
- Relevant knowledge and industrial experience in the field of gene therapy development is preferred
- Calcium imaging, multi-electrode arrays and whole-cell patch-clamp recordings in cardiomyocytes
- Molecular cloning experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to move 25 lbs. required
- Must be able to perform repetitive motion activities for long periods of time
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
