Data Science Institute hosting Women in Data Science Conference March 7, Alumni Hall
Women in Data Science Mini-Conference next Tuesday, March 7th in Alumni Hall! In our celebration of women in data science, our presenters will cover a myriad of applications of data science – from education, archaeology, and assistive technology – to cell biology, antibiotic discovery, and disaster resilience. Attendees of all backgrounds and genders are welcome to join us in our celebration of women in data science, and can register for all or part of the event on the DSI website!
This conference will feature a variety of sessions that are perfect for anyone who is passionate about data science. If you want to showcase your skills and experience, there are several opportunities to get involved: Info sessions, a Career Panel, and a Tech Expo featuring student projects.
The day begins with an introduction before launching into the first round of featured speakers. Speakers will give talks ranging from 5-20 minutes between 9:30 a.m. and noon. Lunch will follow the first round of speakers. Projects from our students will be on display at our Tech Expo during lunch and throughout the day. The conference will continue with more featured speakers between 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. We will break for hors d’oeuvres and networking before the Career Panel begins at 4 p.m.
The Career Panel is the chance for aspiring data scientists to hear from women working in the field. During this one-hour session, panelists will answer guided questions from the audience, providing valuable insight and advice for anyone looking to advance in the field.
We’ll also highlight some of the incredible work of our women in data science at Vanderbilt. Our Tech Expo will give students a chance to share with attendees projects they’ve worked on at the Data Science Institute. Students will be provided with space to set up materials and will also have time during the event to answer questions and share their knowledge.
This conference is an excellent opportunity to connect with other women in data science, share your experiences, and learn from others in the field.
