VI4 and ArtLab are looking for a science writing intern.
The writing internship with the VI4 AiR program will allow one graduate student to gain practical experience in writing about an innovative art-science program. Specifically, the student will document and showcase the unique work in this program blending art and science.
The intern will be responsible for writing a series of short articles (8 total) about the 2023 VI4 artist-in-residence program. The articles will be published online and included in our annual report. The intern will work closely with the VI4 team and Kendra H. Oliver, who will provide feedback and access to all the resources needed to complete the project successfully. Through this experience, the intern will gain valuable writing and communication skills and exposure to the cutting-edge art-science work being done within the VI4 program.
The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, a team player, results-oriented, and dedicated to the achievement of personal and team goals. This internship requires a candidate with a strong interest in science communication, excellent writing skills, and attention to details. An interest in science art is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
- Generate written content to be published online and included in our annual report.
- Write copy for social networks to promote the artwork
- Instagram – @VUMC_VI4 & @Vanderbilt_artlab
- Twitter – @VI4Research & @ArtLab_Vandy
- Assist in making marketing and creative materials for program outreach
INTERNSHIP DETAILS
- Internship will run May-August 2023.
- Internship is unpaid
- Part-time (~10 hours per week), flexible and a mix of on campus and remote work.

Eligibility requirements
- Applicants must be a current Vanderbilt University PhD student or a current postdoctoral fellow.
- All PhD students must have completed all coursework for their degree prior to the start of the internship.
- Biomedical PhD students must also have passed their qualifying exams before the application deadline.
- Students and postdocs may not participate in more than one internship at a time. More than one application may be submitted at a single time, but only one position can be accepted.
- If you are not in a department supported by the BRET office, we will also require that you complete a form guaranteeing PI approval to participate in this program. Please contact Ashley Brady at ashley.brady@vanderbilt.edu for more information.
