Job Opportunity: Health Communications Specialist, National Institute of Health

Duties:

  • Provides recommendations to the All of Us Research Program senior staff to formulate communications strategies to achieve the program’s goals.
  • Initiates, develops and implements dynamic and proactive communications campaigns appropriate for intended audiences, with a focus on earned media strategies.
  • Coordinates with multiple groups on regional and national levels to leverage and maximize communications resources.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of communications activities and tactics against stated objectives.
  • Reviews materials prepared by program partners for accuracy, suitability, and adherence to program language conventions.
  • Collect, summarize, and analyze data to assess participant reactions to campaign and advise on how to modify strategies accordingly. Critically evaluate existing program efforts and propose improvements.
  • Serve as an advisor to program awardees and partners.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Health Communications Specialist at the GS-11 level, you must:
A. I qualify for this position at the GS-11 level because I have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M., if related.
OR
B. I qualify for this position at the GS-11 level because I have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: designing and writing a variety of health and science communications materials and products; responding to inquiries on complex and/or controversial issues, including media inquiries; AND collecting and analyzing data to evaluate effectiveness of communication strategies.
OR
C. I qualify for this position at the GS-11 level because I have a combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
OR
D. My experience and/or education do not match the choices above.

In order to qualify for the Health Communications Specialist position at the GS-12 level, you must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: developing and presenting a variety of health and science communications materials and products; responding to inquiries regarding complex and/or controversial issues, including media inquiries; modifying standard communication practices and approaches to increase awareness among a variety of audiences; collecting, summarizing, and analyzing data to assess effectiveness of communications strategies and advising campaign leads (or equivalent) to modify strategies; AND assisting in developing social marketing campaigns for mass communications.

In order to qualify for a Health Communications Specialist position at the GS-13 level, you must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: developing and executing a variety of health and science communications materials and products; responding to inquiries regarding complex and/or controversial issues, including media inquiries; modifying standard communication practices and approaches to increase awareness among a variety of audiences; evaluating and reporting on the overall the effectiveness communications campaigns or programs; AND providing recommendations to senior management regarding new social media strategies on communication and media activities.
