The Position:

The Medical Associate Program Officer will provide dynamic support to the Medical Research Portfolio Director, contributing to multiple diverse projects across the Portfolio’s strategy development and grantmaking. This position is an ideal opportunity for an individual who is passionate about biomedical research and how philanthropic funds can be strategically deployed to speed the pace of progress—especially for diseases that have big social and economic implications for the US population (such as Alzheimer’s Disease and cancer). Candidates should be prepared to work with colleagues and advisors to set strategic priorities, conduct due diligence on potential grantmaking opportunities, and learn from current grantees. The ideal candidate will
be a strategic, creative thinker; an excellent communicator, able to find clear and creative ways of conveying the impact of scientific research to a wide range of audiences; and a good team player, who enjoys working respectfully with colleagues, advisors, and partner organizations in the nonprofit research sector.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Portfolio development: Reviewing and synthesizing information about the biomedical research sector, specific areas of research (e.g., disease states), and grantmaking strategies; engaging with the field to source new ideas and connections; and producing concise, compelling internal and external communications to support decision-making about the Foundation’s strategy and grantmaking.
• Grants management and support: Supporting Portfolio leadership to steward several multi-year grants; managing ongoing learning and engagement with grantees; monitoring, evaluating, and developing lay friendly communications about the impact of the Foundation’s grantmaking; and building knowledge of relevant peer funders and programs.

Background and characteristics of strong candidates:
• B.A. and relevant post-graduate experience preferred; minimum of 3-5 years of work experience with
medical research in the academic, for-profit, or nonprofit sectors.

• Curiosity and adaptability
• Demonstrated interest in biomedicine, drug/diagnostic development, philanthropy, and social impact
• A sense of humor
Compensation
• The position is full-time and based in NYC.
• The Foundation is currently on a hybrid schedule of 2 days/week in-office expected.
• Salary range for this position is $110,000-$130,000.
