Health Economics Postdoctoral Fellowship, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania
The Postdoctoral Fellow will join The Parity Center, based in the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy in the Perelman School of Medicine. The aims of The Parity Center are to advance the redesign of payment and policy to promote healthcare equity; build partnerships with payment and delivery organizations to translate and test in real world settings; and train future leaders who can address payment-related drivers of inequity. The Center is committed to these goals in collaboration with health insurer, health system, physician practice and policymaker partners to achieve organizational and societal goals of greater health care value and equity.
The fellow will work under the supervision of Dr. Amol Navathe and will work closely with the Associate Director team and other colleagues in the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy and across the University. The fellow also will have access to a community of LDI-affiliated trainees, which includes graduate students, postdocs, and clinical fellows. The fellow will plan and execute independent analytic research projects using techniques and methods commonly used by investigators in their specific area of research; assist with the writing and publication of analytic results; assist with the writing of grant applications; and contribute to the Center’s atmosphere and culture. Fellows will receive a generous annual stipend; benefits; funds for academic books, research and travel; and workspace on Penn’s campus.
This is a 12-month position with a desired start date of spring 2024, though earlier or later starts may be considered. Renewal for an additional year, contingent upon funding and success, is planned.
The Parity Center seeks a self-motivated, independent, and innovative post-doctoral fellow. Expertise is required in health policy, health economics and/or health outcomes research. Applicants must have a MD or PhD (or equivalent). Note: University policy states that any individual’s cumulative post-doctoral fellow experience should not exceed five years total; therefore, individuals who will have completed more than two years as post-doctoral fellow prior to their anticipated start date in this program are not eligible.
The Parity Center has particular interest in persons with the necessary skills, under guidance of Dr. Amol Navathe and other senior researchers, to conduct original research evaluating the impact of value-based care and payment models on health care value and equity; manage/implement pragmatic randomized experiments; develop analytic plans; perform and/or oversee data analyses; present analytic findings at weekly data team meetings; create drafts of high-quality research manuscripts for submission to peer-review at journals relevant to payment research; prepare scientific research findings for dissemination at internal and external meetings and conferences; prepare grant applications; and mentor junior researchers. The goal is to help the post-doctoral fellow launch a successful academic career through mentored research and professional development through participation in seminars and workshops, training in research communications and policy engagement, and opportunities to pursue internal and external funding.
