Pendant Biosciences is a small Nashville, TN- based life sciences company focused on developing biocompatible materials and drug delivery technologies through a polymer-based platform. They are focused on advancements on formulations and drug discovery tools.
Pendant Biosciences, founded in 2012 by Shawn Glinter, CEO and Eric Elmquist, COO, was initially built off of technology licensed from Vanderbilt University. Since then, research and development activities have been conducted with a number of academic and industry collaborators to advance and develop the platform.
Pendant Biosciences is a resident company of the J&J JLABS incubator in Houston, TX. The JLABS facility in Houston is a 34,000-square foot center where start-up companies in life sciences leveraging the J&J infrastructure. This gives Pendant Biosciences access to the Johnson & Johnson Innovation network, industry experts with unparalleled translational research and commercialization experience, as well as key life science investors.
Pendant Biosciences is seeking a graduate or postdoctoral fellow intern to assist them with one of several potential projects which is not limited to, but may include:
PROJECTS
- Contributing to day-to-day R&D projects
- Developing formal business presentations
- Identifying and assisting in the development of grant applications
- Providing support with SBIR grant writing
INTERNSHIP DETAILS
- Internship would be from appx February- May, 2024 (10-12 weeks, with the possibility of extension pending evaluation)
- Appx 8 hours per week.
- Internship will be paid at $15.00 per hour
- Chemistry or Biomedical Engineering background preferred (Experience with drug delivery/polymer chemistry a plus)
- Experience in Business and Entrepreneurship a plus (i.e. participation in an ASPIRE business module or Tech Commercialization module, Tech Venture Challenge, prior experience in a start-up environment etc…)

- Gain exposure to the culture of a life sciences start-up; attend meetings with the team, learn about the challenges and opportunities of getting an early stage life sciences company off the ground, observe the many hats worn by members of an early-stage endeavor.

- Make connections with business and biotech leaders in the local life sciences entrepreneurial ecosystem
- Assist with helping the company achieve immediate milestones
- Broaden experience beyond the bench to learn about new opportunities available to PhD Scientist’s
- Expand knowledge base in areas of business, marketing, regulatory, and IP

Eligibility requirements
- Applicants must be a current Vanderbilt University PhD student or a current postdoctoral fellow.
- All PhD students must have completed all coursework for their degree prior to the start of the internship.
- Biomedical PhD students must also have passed their qualifying exams before the application deadline.
- Students and postdocs may not participate in more than one internship at a time. More than one application may be submitted at a single time, but only one position can be accepted.
