Looking for one more assistant facilitator for IGP!

Posted by on Friday, July 19, 2024 in Announcements .

We have an outstanding opportunity for postdoctoral trainees and senior graduate students (4th year and above) to gain teaching experience as assistant facilitators in the first-year IGP* curriculum. Participation in this opportunity would provide valuable experience in multiple aspects of teaching including material preparation, discussion facilitation, and assessment. Training and compensation will be provided for all assistant facilitators and the experience could also provide a valuable reference regarding your teaching experience and efficacy.

During the period when the assistant facilitators will be involved (August 27th – October 29th), the coursework will cover topics within the central dogma, genetics, and cell signaling. Assistant facilitators will run in-person discussion sessions with groups of 13-14 students, facilitate the sharing of peer feedback, and grade some assignments. The majority of time will be focused on discussing primary research articles, with some time allocated for group problem solving and peer feedback on ideas for research proposals.

Assistant facilitators will be responsible for leading small group discussions at the following dates and times:

  • Tues, Aug 27, 9-11am (paper discussion)
  • Tues, Sep 10, 9-11am (paper discussion)
  • Tues, Oct 8, 9-11am (paper discussion)
  • Mon, Oct 14, 9-11am (group problem solving)
  • Tues, Oct 15, 9-11am (facilitating peer feedback)
  • Tues, Oct 22, 9-11am (paper discussion)
  • Mon, Oct 28, 9-11am (group problem solving)
  • Tues, Oct 29, 9-11am (facilitating peer feedback)

Interested individuals should obtain permission from their PI and email Madhvi Venkatesh for more information (madhvi.venkatesh@vanderbilt.edu).
